Flake questions $1M federal outlay for unknown center
The Phoenix Business Journal
U.S. Rep. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., is looking to squelch a leading Democratic lawmaker's federal pet spending project for a center that does not seem to exist.
Flake opposes a $1 million federal spending earmark for the Center for Instrumented Critical Infrastructure. The Mesa Republican says he cannot find a Web site or other proof that the center exists. Flake questioned Democrats on the House floor earlier this week as to whether the center exists or is being created. Responding Democratic lawmakers were not sure of the answer.
The $1 million outlay is going to Concurrent Technologies Corp. to run the center. Concurrent, based in Johnstown, Pa., has received numerous federal spending outlays in recent years and is a big campaign contributor to U.S. Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa.
