Poll shows opposition to legal path for immigrants as McCain's rating dips
The Phoenix Business Journal
A new poll shows Arizona voters oppose a business-backed federal immigration bill being debated in the U.S. Senate.
The Rasmussen Reports poll also shows that Sen. John McCain's approval rating in the state has dipped. McCain is a 2008 Republican presidential contender and advocate of the immigration reform package, which includes a guest worker program and legal path for many of the 12 million illegal immigrants already in the U.S.
Seventy-percent of those surveyed said federal immigration changes should focus on improving border security, while 22 percent said it should focus on creating a new path for illegals to stay in the country.
