High court decision good for Ariz. partial-birth abortion ban

PHOENIX -- The architect of Arizona's own ban on "partial-birth abortions" believes a new U.S. Supreme Court ruling on a similar federal law may finally allow enforcement of the state statute.

Sen. Karen Johnson, R-Mesa, said she is researching the effect of Wednesday's high court ruling which upheld the legality of a 2003 federal law. That measure, upheld as valid in a 5-4 ruling, makes it a crime to partially deliver a fetus and intentionally kill it.
